ABOUT JUDY
Judy Bozone’s music is eclectic and vivid, like the composer herself. She earned her Bachelors degree in composition, with minors in philosophy and history at Baylor University in Waco, Texas before completing both her Masters and Doctoral degrees at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre and Dance in Ann Arbor, Michigan. A past participant at Bang on A Can, the Aspen Music Festival, the American Music Festival, the Thailand International Composition Festival, and other festivals, Judy thoroughly enjoys opportunities to work alongside today’s multi-faceted generation of performers, composers and teachers.
Judy’s music actively explores texture, tonality and space while maintaining a strong perspective. Her music will often include inspiration from many art forms including poems and visual art, some of which she created as a backdrop for the music. Composers Michael Colgrass and David Lang identify Judy as having a “voice of her own” and “offering a unique beauty.” Michael Daugherty describes her music as “creative and original,” while Kevin Puts says that Judy's music has “a special voice I hope you will not shy away from…totally original.” Judy began her teaching career at Mahidol University in Bangkok, Thailand where she served as head of the Music Theory and Composition Department. Since returning to America, Judy has settled in Texas where she teaches and composes. She currently teaches music theory, composition, ear training, and orchestration at Texas A&M University Commerce, where she heads the Music Theory area. In recent years, the Minnesota Orchestra Composers Institute named Judy an outstanding emerging composer. Her work has been featured in performances by the Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra, the Minnesota Orchestra, the Albany Symphony, and the symphonic bands of the University of Michigan, University of North Carolina Greensboro, Arkansas Tech University, Carthage College, and Oklahoma City University. Murphy Music Press publishes her music. Judy avidly supports contemporary music for all and enjoys sharing her unique musical point of view with others.
